Inherited Silence
24×36 inch on canvas.
“Inherited Silence” reflects the unspoken pain, survival, and emotional restraint passed down through generations. The fragmented profile and partially covered mouth symbolize the voices that were muted by fear, expectation, trauma, or the need to endure without complaint.
The loose pastel lines and unfinished forms represent memories and histories that are often felt more than fully explained. Hints of color break through the black-and-white structure, symbolizing identity, resilience, and individuality fighting to exist beneath inherited burdens. Rather than depicting silence as weakness, the piece explores how silence can become something carried learned, protected, and eventually questioned by the next generation.
